Love your blog. The Suwannee river is our 2nd home. So beautiful and so much fun. Come down our way when you get a chance. The stretch upstream from Manatee Springs to where the Santa Fe meets the Suwannee is fabulous.

My son Kurt and I Just got off the UT yestarday. The 21 mile trail was an amazing adventure for us (this being his first backpack hike). The trail took us two days as we camped about a mile south of the 109 crossing. Although his is only 13 he shopwed me how much of a man he is becoming. I look forward to many more hikes with him and couldn't think of a better one to start off with. We took all of our supplies with us even though there are several good water sources along the trail (streams and small creeks). Living in NC about 2 hours away made this a perfect trip.

I thoroughly enjoyed your article. I have have done one moonlight kayak trip on Falls Lake north of Raleigh and as you say, it is quite strange at first kayaking in the light of the full moon!
Hope that one day when we're at the beach I can schedule a moonlight trip - although I won't be able to hear the night sounds come alive as I am deaf.

I'm from Ohio and will be in Charlotte during our late April spring break. I would like to take my sons (16 and 13) on a backpacking trek. We are used to the outdoors but novices on backpacking. This trail sounds like it would be good? Is there potable water at the campsites or do we either need to lug in our own or carry purifiers? Any good maps you can point me to so I know where the trailheads are? I would approecitate you advise. Thanks!

This is a great trip if you want a few days of adventure. The beaches along the river are solid white sand and great places to camp. The river camps ran by Florida are excellent places to camp as well. The paddling varies with the water level, but the scenery keeps the trip interesting with many cliffs, wildlife, and fresh water springs flowing into the main river. All you got to do is show up with your personal gear and Don will take care of the rest. It's a great winter trip with the warm weather in Flordia.

My son and I had a great time on this trip. The trail was great and the location was fantastic. A perfect Trail for first time backpackers. It's not too physicaly challenging (for novices) but challenging enough to get a good sense of acomplishment. The trail offers several great campsites at good locations(not too far apart) with plenty of access to water. Don and his son were excellent Trail guides and great companions as well. Mahanaim adventures lived up to our expectations and exceeded them. I would have to say it was a wonderful experience and would certainly not hesitate to do it again. My son and I highly recomend this to anyone who wants to get closer to nature and each other, as a family or freinds. We can't wait till our next adventure.
