South River: The South River has one of the longest stretches of isolated river in North Carolina. At headwaters of the South River has its beginning only 4 miles from the more famous Cape Fear River. The lower section of the river that your adventures explore, the river has been designated as an Outstanding Resource Water. The South river is another fantastic blackwater river with low to swampy banks with many large stands of bald cypress trees growing along the bank. There are several ideal locations for camping along the South River making this river another wonderful place for overnight adventures.

As with the Black River, the South River as many beautiful sandbars that allow you to pull over to enjoy a relaxing lunch on the river bank, as well as a refreshing dip in the sandy bottom river. Wildlife is also plentiful on this river and you should not miss a thing with this wonderful adventure location.

Three possible full day adventures including possible overnight adventure

  • UN 701 access to NC 41 Bridge – 8.6 mile float
  • NC 41 Bridge to Ennis Bridge Road – 9.4 mile float
  • Ennis Bridge Road to Beattys Bridge Road – 13.4 miles float

  • Group of 2-5 Persons: $90 per person
  • Group of 6-10 Persons: $70 per person
